Wi-chian maat: Have you heard about it? Pee Geng’s mother read the news about a train colliding into a pick-up truck yesterday.
สีสวาด: ฉันได้ยินแล้ว ฉันรีบแอบไปดูในหนังสือพิมพ์เลย
Si Sawat: I’ve heard. I’ve rushed to secretly read it in the newspapers.
วิเชียรมาศ: เอ๊ะ สีสวาด ฉันเกิดสงสัยขึ้นมาน่ะ ทำไม “รถ” จึงเขียน ร เรือ ถ ถุงล่ะ แล้วทำไม “รสหวาน” จึงเขียน ร เรือ กับ ส เสือ เขียนไม่เหมือนกันเลยอ่ะ แต่อ่านเหมือนกันได้ยังไงอ่ะ
Wi-chian maat: Hey Si Sawat! Something’s puzzling me. Why is ‘Rot’ written with a ror reua tor tung and why is ‘Rot waan’ written with a ror reua and a sor seua. They are not written the same way but how is it that they’re pronounced the same?
สีสวาด: ก็มันคนละคำกัน คนละความหมายกันนะสิ
Si Sawat: That’s because they are separate words, each with its own meaning.
วิเชียรมาศ: อุ๊ย ฉันนึกออกแล้ว วันก่อนฉันได้ยินพี่ก้อยเค้า(เขา)อ่านว่า “รถไฟ รถตุ๊ก ๆ รถบรรทุก และรถม้า รถแทรกเตอร์ ใช้ไถนา รถไฟฟ้า และรถเมล์”
Wi-chian maat: Ah! I recall it now. The other day I heard Pee Goi reading “Rot fai, rot tuk-tuk, rot ban-tuk lae rot maa. Rot traek-dter chai tai naa. Rot fai-faa lae rot may”.

Narrator: The word ‘Rot’ can be spelled many ways. Spelled with a dor dek, it’s ‘Rot naam’, spelled with a tor tung it’s ‘Rot yon’ and spelled with a sor seua it’s ‘Rot aa-haan’.
