Time Indicator
“ตอน”(torn) is used to indicate a time period in Thai such as morning, late morning, afternoon, evening and night. We also use “ตอน”(torn) with specific times.
“ตี” (tii) is used to refer to the clock hours from “ตีหนึ่ง”(tii nung) to “ตีห้า”(tii haa) in Thai. This corresponds to the time period from 1am to 5am.
“เช้า”(chao) is used to refer to the time period from “หกโมงเช้า”(hok mong chaao) to “สิบเอ็ดโมงเช้า”(sib ed mong chaao) in Thai, This corresponds to the hours from 6am to 11am.
“บ่าย”(baai) is used to refer to the time period from “บ่ายโมง”(baai mong) to “บ่ายสามโมง”(baai saam mong) in Thai. This corresponds to the hours from 1pm to 3pm.
“เย็น”(yen) is used to refer to the time period from “สี่โมงเย็น”(sii mong yen) to “หกโมงเย็น”(hok mong yen) in Thai. This corresponds to the hours from 4pm to 6pm.
“ทุ่ม”(thum) is used to refer to the time period from “หนึ่งทุ่ม”(nung thum) to “ห้าทุ่ม” (haa thum) in Thai. This corresponds to the hours from 7pm to 11pm.
Examples:
ตอนเช้า (torn chaao ) = morning
ตอนสาย (torn saai ) = late morning
ตอนบ่าย (torn baai) = afternoon
ตอนเย็น (torn yen) = late afternoon
ตอนค่ำ (torn kham) = evening
ตอนดึก (torn deuk) = late night
ชั่วโมง (chua mong) = hour
นาที (naa thii) = minute
วินาที (wi naa thii) = second
ครึ่ง (krung) = half

คุณมานะ: ห้างเปิดสิบโมงเช้า (Haang perd sib mong chaao)
Mr. Mana: It’s open at 10am
คุณมานะ: ปิดสี่ทุ่มครับ (Pid sii thum khab)
Mr. Mana: and close at 10pm
Conversation 2 – What Time Do You Wake Up?
คุณมานี: วันทำงานปกติคุณตื่นกี่โมงคะ (Wan tham ngaan pok ka ti khun teuun kii mong kha)
Ms. Manee: What time do you wake up on regular workday?
คุณมานะ: ผมตื่นตีห้าครับ (Phom teuun tii haa khab)
Mr. Mana: I wake up at five o’clock.
คุณมานี: คุณออกจากบ้านกี่โมงคะ (khun ork jaak baan kii mong kha)
Ms. Manee: What time you leave the house?
คุณมานะ: ผมออกจากบ้านไปทำงานหกโมงเช้าครับ (Phom ork jaak baan pai tham ngaan hok mong chaao khab)
Mr. Mana: I leave the house for work at six o’clock in the morning

คุณมานี: วันนี้ฉันจะทำกาแฟ (Wan nii chan ja tham kaa fae)
Ms. Manee: Today, I’m going to make coffee.
คุณมานี: คุณจะเอากาแฟมั้ยคะ (Khun ja ao kaa fae mai kha)
Ms. Manee: Would you like some coffee?
คุณมานะ: เอาครับ ขอบคุณครับ (ao khab. Khob khun khab)
Mr. Mana: Yes, please. Thank you.

คุณมานี: คุณว่างมั้ยคะ (Khun waang mai kha)
Ms. Manee: Are you available?
คุณมานี: ไปด้วยกันมั้ยคะ (Pai duai kan mai kha)

คุณมานะ: พรุ่งนี้ผมว่างครับ (Prung nii phom waang khab)
