I’m in like with Moleskins too…

Several years back, seemed all my designer friends were in love with their Moleskins. And seems like they’re still at it.

Living overseas, Moleskins haven’t been readily available. And I’m not sure when they made it to Asia, but they are definitely here.

I found mine at Paragon in BKK. And while I didn’t purchase right away, I did walk around the Moleskin display thinking about the possibilities.

Then, that very same week, I read The Ninja Learning Technique Thai alphabet style, by Jpop in Japan.

Karate Kid… would master one small seemingly insignificant task a day, and each subsequent task-a-day would build on the previously learnt ones.

The Moleskin / Ninja Technique (long version)…

  1. Purchase a Moleskin sketch notebook (large) or similar.
  2. First day, write out a page of ก’s while listening to ก from the Thai Alphabet poem.
  3. Second day, write out a page of ข’s, followed by a page of กข’s (include listening).
  4. Each day, write out another letter, followed by a page with all the previous letters (include listening).
  5. Continue to the end of the Thai alphabet.

The Moleskin / Ninja Technique (shorter version)…

  1. Purchase a Moleskin sketch notebook (large) or similar.
  2. Purchase Reading Thai is Fun by James Neal.
  3. First day, open to pages 14 and 15 of Reading Thai is Fun.
  4. Following the diagrams, write a page of มนทห’s while listening to the Thai Alphabet poem.
  5. Second day, do pages 16 and 17 (ขชบป’s), followed by a page of มนทห’s and ขชบป’s (include listening).
  6. Continue to the end of the Thai alphabet (consonants and vowels).

If writing page after page of small Thai script is not for you, read The Easy Way for Beginners to Read and Write Thai, which touches on the basics of Reading Thai is Fun.
